I plan to fire and then glaze my piece. I am planning on painting my tray with green leaves and than paint my pumpkins orange and painting the stems green as well. I also will be putting a cork in the bottom of my pumpkins as a stopper in the hole where you can put in the salt and pepper to the shaker. It was difficult to cut the hole in the bottom for the stopper and it was also difficult to form a bed for the stems to lock into. I was successful in shaping my pumpkins and creating my tray for them to rest in. My first step for this project was brainstorming. I got the idea to do pumpkin salt and pepper shakers because Thanksgiving is coming up and I thought it would be fun for my piece to be used by my family. After brainstorming I used the pinch pot technique to create the pumpkins. After that I coiled two tiny pieces of clay into little stems for the top of my piece. Than I made the hole in the bottom and made the tiny holes underneath the steam where the actual salt and pepper will come out. After that I used the technique of slab to create my tray. I measured out the exact height, width, and length and than scored and slipped them together. I smoothed both the pieces with a wet sponge so that there are no lines. Once my tray was put together I was able to put my pieces in Kiln room. That is how far along I am.
