Project Blog Post:
Portraits Warm Up Blog Post
Since my last blog post I have finished firing my piece and glazing it. After removing my piece from the kiln, I picked out my glaze colors, and began to paint my piece. After glazing my piece, I refired it, and then allowed it to cool. Once I completed all of that my piece was finished. I found my sculpture piece to be successful in the sense that it was structurally sound, it's design was unique, and I was able to properly execute the project. I had a certain vision for this project and I am very pleased with the final piece. If I were to do this piece again I would consider putting a design on the tray that the salt and pepper shakers rest in.
1. My piece shows the theme of lines through the design on the star. There are horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines.
2. I believe my piece was successful in the sense that it conveys the theme, it is unique, and it is a print that you could display around christmas time as a decoration. I based my piece off of the Star of David due to the upcoming holiday. If I were to change anything I would try to make my cuts on each side of the star more even. I plan to fire and then glaze my piece. I am planning on painting my tray with green leaves and than paint my pumpkins orange and painting the stems green as well. I also will be putting a cork in the bottom of my pumpkins as a stopper in the hole where you can put in the salt and pepper to the shaker. It was difficult to cut the hole in the bottom for the stopper and it was also difficult to form a bed for the stems to lock into. I was successful in shaping my pumpkins and creating my tray for them to rest in. My first step for this project was brainstorming. I got the idea to do pumpkin salt and pepper shakers because Thanksgiving is coming up and I thought it would be fun for my piece to be used by my family. After brainstorming I used the pinch pot technique to create the pumpkins. After that I coiled two tiny pieces of clay into little stems for the top of my piece. Than I made the hole in the bottom and made the tiny holes underneath the steam where the actual salt and pepper will come out. After that I used the technique of slab to create my tray. I measured out the exact height, width, and length and than scored and slipped them together. I smoothed both the pieces with a wet sponge so that there are no lines. Once my tray was put together I was able to put my pieces in Kiln room. That is how far along I am.
What perspective did you use? 1, 2, or 3? (8pts) -I used two point perspective Tell me about the photo, where did you take it? (8pts) -I took this photo on a private dock in Surf City,NC. We also ride bikes at the beach and each year we go exploring. Last year we found a dock that lead to the sound and we were just in time to watch the sunset What did you find difficult about the project? - It was difficult for me to add as much detail as I wanted How did the two warm-ups you picked help? Explain. -I picked the hallway drawing and the watercolor techniques warm up. I picked these two because the perspective drawing helped me focus on not drawing from straight on. The watercolor techniques helped me figure out how to create different details using different brush strokes.
